FUE Hair Transplant
Hairline Feminization

The hairline is the second most important gender marker in the upper third of the face. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) transforms an M-shaped male hairline into a soft, "inverted U", rounded feminine contour — with no linear scar and minimal downtime.

Technique FUE — individual graft extraction
Anesthesia Local + mild oral sedation
Duration 4 – 8 hours per session
Hospitalization Outpatient — same day
Return to activities 7 – 10 days
Final results 12 – 18 months
The Technique

Why FUE
is the gold standard

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) replaced the older FUT strip technique as the preferred method worldwide. Instead of removing a strip of scalp — which leaves a permanent linear scar — FUE extracts each follicular unit individually using a specialized micropunch of 0.8 to 1.0 mm in diameter. The result is a series of tiny, nearly invisible dots in the donor area at the back of the head that heal naturally within 2 weeks. No stitches, no linear scar, and a much faster recovery.

Each graft contains 1–4 hairs. After extraction, grafts are stored in a preservation solution before implantation.

01

No linear scar

Only tiny white dots remain in the donor area — invisible within 2 weeks. If you ever want to shave the back of your head for an undercut hairstyle, there won't be any visible trace of the procedure.

02

95–100% survival rate

When each graft is handled correctly and stored in a specialized preservation solution, the transplanted follicle survival rate reaches 95–100% (following the aftercare instructions strictly is crucial).

03

Outpatient procedure

No hospitalization required. Local anesthesia with mild sedation keeps you comfortable and awake throughout the 4–8 hour session. LED TV screen in the OR for you to watch your favorite shows.

04

Permanent results

Transplanted follicles are taken from hormone-resistant areas at the back and sides of the head. They keep their genetic programming and continue growing for life.

FUE & Facial Feminization

Redesigning the
feminine hairline

The hairline is the second most important gender marker in the upper third of the face, after the shape of the forehead bones. A male hairline typically forms an M-shape, with recession and angular corners at the temples, which cause a higher forehead. A female hairline follows a softer, rounded or inverted-U contour and sits lower on the forehead on the sides.

FUE hair transplant precisely targets the receded temple corners, filling and rounding them with hormone-resistant grafts to create a permanently feminine hairline shape. The procedure can be performed in the same trip as forehead feminization surgery, 2 weeks after, which extends 5 days the total recommended stay in Buenos Aires.

Timing Options

When to combine
with FFS

In the same trip as FFS

FUE hair transplants performed in the same medical trip to Buenos Aires as forehead feminization, 10 to 14 days apart — patient gets back home with complete upper third feminization.

Before FFS

If preferred, FUE can precede FFS — but a waiting period of about 6 months is recommended before further operations, to allow the grafts to settle and consolidate fully. Not recommended if a scalp advancement will be part of the FFS, because the scar from forehead contouring will be left in front of the transplants.

After FFS

FUE hair transplants can also be performed after FFS to refine the hairline, cover incision scars, or add density. A minimum wait of 6 months after FFS is required so that swelling has fully resolved and soft tissues have consolidated. Recommended if a scalp advancement will be part of the FFS, because transplants can be grafted in the scar resulting from forehead contouring and help conceal it.

Step by Step

How the FUE procedure works

1

Consultation & hairline design

The surgeon evaluates your hair loss pattern, donor density, and designs the new feminine hairline — marking the target contour before any extraction begins.

2

Donor area preparation

The donor zone (back and sides of the head) is shaved and numbed with local anesthesia. A mild oral sedative keeps you relaxed — you remain awake throughout.

3

Individual graft extraction

Using a 0.8–1.0 mm micropunch, each follicular unit (containing 1–4 hairs) is individually extracted. Grafts are stored in a preservation solution to maintain vitality.

4

Recipient site creation

Tiny incisions are made in the recipient area following the natural hair growth angle. Single-hair grafts are placed at the hairline; denser multi-hair grafts further back.

5

Graft placement

Each graft is precisely implanted following the natural direction, angle, and density of your hair — achieving a completely natural hairline that blends seamlessly.

FAQ

Everything you
need to know

FUE is a long commitment — the final result unfolds over 12 months. Here are the most important questions answered honestly.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia — the initial injection is the most uncomfortable part. Once the scalp is numb, you will feel no pain. A mild oral sedative helps with relaxation during the 4–8 hour session. Most patients describe the experience as comfortable enough to watch a film on the LED screen of the OR or listen to music throughout.
This depends entirely on the extent of temporal recession, the thickness, density and quality of the hairs in the donor area, the width of the target zone, and your desired hairline shape. A typical session for hairline feminization involves 1,200 to 2,500 grafts. A second session can be performed after the first results have consolidated, to increase density.
Yes — and this is completely normal. Around 80% of transplanted hairs enter a dormant phase and shed within the first 2–3 weeks. The follicle itself remains alive beneath the scalp. New growth begins at approximately 3 months, with progressive thickening through month 12. Full density is visible at 12–18 months.
Yes. Grafts are taken from hormone-resistant zones at the back and sides of the scalp. These follicles carry a genetic program that makes them immune to the hormonal factors causing androgenetic alopecia — they continue growing for life, regardless of where they are transplanted. For transgender women on hormone therapy, the risk of future loss is further reduced by the presence of estrogen and lack of testosterone.
First 72 hours: Rest at the hotel. Sleep with head elevated. Nothing at all can touch the recipient area. Days 4 to 14: Gentle washing with a mild shampoo following the surgeon's instructions. Small scabs form around each graft — do not pick them. They fall off on their own. Second week: Return to normal activities. Avoid sun exposure, strenuous exercise and sweating for one month. Weeks 3–4: Shedding phase — most transplanted hairs start to fall out. This is expected and temporary. Month 3–6: New growth begins to appear. Month 12–18: Final result — full density and natural appearance.
FUE is one of the safest hair restoration procedures available. Documented risks include: temporary numbness in the donor or recipient area (resolving within 2–6 months); folliculitis (small inflamed pimples from ingrown transplanted hairs, easily managed); minor temporary swelling of the forehead and eyelid area in the first 48 hours; and — with an inexperienced surgeon — possible overharvesting of the donor area, which is why the choice of clinic is critical.
The ideal candidate has sufficient donor hair density, a stable hairline (or is on hormonal therapy that has stabilized the hair loss), realistic expectations about the timeline of results, and is in good general health. A thorough consultation — including a close-up scalp assessment from multiple angles — is the only way to determine candidacy and estimate the number of grafts needed. Successful candidates must be able to avoid close proximity to pets and toddlers for the first 14 days post procedure.
