How a neck lift
is performed
The surgeon makes an incision consisting of two sections: a vertical section behind each ear and a horizontal section of about 5 cm parallel to the hairline at the back of the head. In some cases, a small additional incision is made under the chin to allow liposuction of the double chin area for better results.
Working through these incisions, the surgeon tightens the muscles and skin of the neck, pulling them upward to restore a more youthful appearance. Excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed with stitches. All scars are hidden behind the ears and under the hair.

First 48 hours
Rest at the hotel. Avoid moving the head abruptly. Bandage removed at 24 hours by the surgeon.
Days 4–10
Bruising and swelling gradually reduce. Stitches removed between day 7 and 10. Cold compresses help.
Day 10
Most patients are able to return to work and normal social activities.
Several months
The treated area may feel numb for some months — this resolves naturally as healing progresses.
What you should know
Every surgery has certain risks. However, complications are very unlikely when a neck lift is performed by a qualified surgeon.
- Furrowing of the skin.
- Infections — less likely with appropriate antibiotics.
- Adverse reactions to anesthesia.
- Hypertrophic scars or keloids, due to genetic traits of certain skin types.
- Bruising.
- Seromas — fluid accumulation beneath the skin, drained by aspiration if needed.
- Sensitivity alterations such as earlobe numbness, usually resolving within 180 days.
